As already communicated previously, the 225 MW Wind Farm Ayitepa will be complemented with two solar parks of 20 MW installed capacity each. After the first of these solar parks having received the Provisional Generation and Wholesale Supply License from the Energy Commisson, we have now recently handed in a corresponding application for the second solar project.
The Wind Energy Project Ayitepa, which is being developed by us on behalf of our contractual partner Upwind International AG, has received the final construction permit from the Energy Commission at the beginning of September 2015. For now, the permit was issued for the planned first building phase of 150 MW installed capacity.
On 3rd September 2015, the Grid Connection Agreement for the 225 MW wind farm at Ayitepa was signed at the Headquarters of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) in Tema. This is another very important step regarding the finalization of the development of the first large scale wind farm in West Africa.
At the end of July, the Energy Commission in Accra issued the Provisional Generation and Wholesale Supply Licence for our 20 MW solar plant at Ayitepa.
More than 500 students from local schools gathered at Ayitepa village to celebrate the first Global Wind Day on June 26, 2015. Wind farm developers NEK Umwelttechnik AG together with Mainstream Renewable Power Ltd. organised the event close to the site of the proposed 225MW Ayitepa Wind Farm which is on track to commence construction early next year.
