Grid connection contract signed for 600 MW in Romania

On behalf of our client, the Switzerland-based Eolica Dobrogea (Schweiz) AG, the essential conditions for the grid connection of 600 MW of wind power were negotiated with the Romanian grid operator, Tanselectrica SA.

In the context of our client, a total of 1,500 MW of wind power is planned. In a first phase, 600 MW will be connected to the grid by the new substation of Tariverde, which is located in the commune of Cogealac in Dobrogea. These extensive negotiations were successfully completed in mid February. This resulted in the signing of the biggest and most extensive grid connection contract for wind energy in Romania. The connection for the total of 600 MW was approved on February 18th 2011. The contract guarantees Eolica Dobrogea (Schweiz) AG the connection of the wind parks total capacity to the grid. Due to the high grid capacity it is not necessary to expand the grid, which makes power production extremely economically attractive in this region.

Together with their partners, NEK Umwelttechnik AG is planning wind projects that will lead to 600 MW at the construction stage. The prospective operators schedule is very demanding, permissions for the first 200 MW are supposed to be granted by autumn 2011 in order to be able to start with the construction.
